Flooring boards made to measure

We produce and deliver flooring boards the way you want them. In order to achieve a good end result, we plane and deliver flooring boards to our customers immediately after receiving them from the kiln in order to prevent changes in moisture content from happening. We also take into consideration the grain direction in the sawn goods to prevent moisture-induced changes and to improve resistance to wear.

Our flooring board materials comprise pine, spruce, heat-treated dark/light birch, oak, ash, heat-treated ash, Oregon pine, and merbau. We also have the capacity to produce flooring boards from more exotic woods. Using the same raw materials, we can also produce mouldings, landings, stairway components, and panels. Boards are also available stained in a variety of ways.

Our standard products come bevelled and sanded ready-to-use, which means that post-mounting sanding is not required. Any defects caused by knots in the wood will be attended to before sanding and the planks are provided with end-matched tongue-and-groove at both ends, thus minimising wastage.

Pine floors

Our standard use for pine is to produce wide and impressive flooring boards, which are particularly suited for applications where massiveness is desired.

Our pine raw material originates from Northern Finland where tree growth is slow and therefore the wood is harder than that of faster grown trees. In addition, the wood from the northern regions contains more of the reddish heartwood and the knots in the wood are smaller.

The standard thicknesses of our pine flooring boards are 21mm, 32mm, and 40mm plus when so requested 28mm. The standard thicknesses of our thick flooring material are 190mm, 215mm, 265mm, and 300mm. We also produce narrow flooring boards of short-grained pine wood as this material is more wear-resistant. Moisture-induced contraction and expension in a short-grained board focuses more on the board's thickness than its width. Consequently, such a floor does not produce cracks in applications subject to considerable moisture variation.

The proportion of dense woody tissue, aka "springwood", in a short-grained board is greater than in boards sawn in the conventional manner, and so it is more wear-resistant. A short-grained board is either free of knots or slightly knotty along its visible face. The overall width of short-grained pine flooring boards is 28x70mm and they are not bevelled along their adges.

Spruce floors

Our standard use for spruce is to produce wide and impressive flooring boards, which are particularly suited for applications where massive look is desired.

The raw material for wooden floors made of spruce wood originates from trees grown in Southern Finland, and the knots in the wood are sounder and there are less resin pockets in the wood.

The standard thicknesses of our spruce flooring boards are 21mm, 32mm, and 40mm plus 28mm when so requested. The standard thicknesses of our thick flooring material are 190mm, 215mm, 265mm, and 300mm.

Birch wood floors

Thermo-treated birch flooring boards are recommended for applications where specific appearance and wear-resistance requirements apply. The flooring boards need to be mounted using either glue or screws. A wooden floor made of thermo-treated birch wood is an excellent choice for facilities with floor-based heating. Mounting using 50mm screws spaced 400mm from one another. Floating structure is not recommended for birch wood floors.

We produce our birch flooring boards using selected birch logs grown in Southern Finland and practically free of knots. This means that they are of high quality and very attractive to look at. The standard board thicknesses are 21mm and 28mm. The overall board widths are 135mm, 160mm, and 180mm. Non-thermo-treated boards delivered by us are less than 120mm in width.

Thermo-treated birch boards are available in two categories of thermo-treatment intensity. The more intensive of these treatments results in a darker colour of the wood. There are two board grades—no knots (i.e. clear) and a few knots. Moisture-induced contraction and expansion in thermo-treated boards is far less than in non-thermo-treated boards. Indeed, thermo-treated birch wood is an excellent choice for facilities subject to moisture variation.

Thermo-treated birchwood boards are delivered non-coated or with a coating of oil wax. Coated boards are ready-to-mount while non-coated boards are ready-for-handling (sanded).

Oak floors

There are two categories of oak floors: no knots and rustic.

Rustic floors are made of meticulously selected raw materials with special attention being directed at knottiness. The allowed knots are small and sound. Knots and cracks have, however, been fixed with putty.

Also, light-coloured/white sapwood has been cut away. Knotty category allows the production of wider-than-normal flooring boards. The oak raw material for the rustic category comes from Europe. Boards are available in several widths!

Knot-free oak floors are made using meticulously selected knot-free raw material. The light sapwood has been largely cut away. These originate from North America. The standard thickness options of our oak floors are 21mm and 28mm.

Ash floors

Ash floors

Our ash boards have the standard thicknesses of 21mm and 28mm. These wood species are highly wear-resistant and lovely in appearance. We are prepared to provide the coating treatments desired by the customer. Thermo-treated ash is dark brown in colour and impressive as flooring material. Thermo-treated ash is also suitable for applications subject to moisture variation as its contraction and expansion is of minor degree. Our ash boards are always knot-free.

Other floors

Douglas fir flooring boards are available also as wide and knot-free short-grained options. The wear-resistance of a short-grained flooring board is good, and thanks to the grain orientation such a floor does not develop moisture variation-induced cracks. The boards are bevelled and available in various dimensions.
