Larch products
Products made of larch always stand out owing to their excellent durability. Larch is perfect for your deck area, pool area, the pier, Read more... as exterior cladding products, for shower and bath facilities, gazebos, etc.
Siberian larch enjoys a special place among the conifers and it has unique properties:
- Decay resistance
Larch products resist decay very well thanks to their high content of a naturally occurring substance called kamedin. This tree species belongs to a group of species resistant to decay as per EN 350-2:1994.
Decay resistance is significantly dependent on the extractives content and type in the wood, e.g. resin. The decay resistance of Siberian larch improves with age as more and more heartwood is formed. As a result, Siberian larch intended to be used as a durable structural timber should not be felled before it reaches the age of 100 years because its decay resistance is based on the amount of heartwood and its properties. This means that the region where the tree grows has a significant impact on the decay resistance of the wood.
- High bio-resistance
Thanks to the special composition of its bark and wood, larch is not susceptible to insect and fungal attacks.
- Strength
Over time, the special composition of the resin makes larch wood stronger. Larch wood is made stronger also by the influence of water, which has been proven by examination of the piles on which Venice rests.
- No need for further treatment
Larch products retain usability without further treatment with varnishes, oils and other protective impregnation products. It should also be noted that larch wood is characterised by its low air permeability and impregnation of larch wood has to be inefficient.
- Convertability
Siberian larch has been found to be difficult to dry (aka seasoning) because if this is done incorrectly it causes the wood to become distorted and to crack. Warping and edge distortion decrease with increasing distance from the pith. Larch wood is difficult to manage in interior decoration use.
- Low thermal conductivity
This feature is certainly a big plus when larch panelling is used as external cladding material. In winter, this type of protection does not let the heat out, and in the summer it does not let the heat in.
- Ecology and safety
Larch wood is an ecologically clean material. It is twice as fire-resistant as pine, and it contains herbal phytoncides and bioflavonoids, and dihydroquercetin, which possesses high antioxidant properties. Hide
